The principles of synthetic monitoring, focusing on application performance, have been around for over a decade. However, the enterprise environment in which apps exist has undergone a massive transformation. In a world where the app delivery chain has evolved with the cloud, monitoring is still playing catch up. Modern application stacks are distributed, interacting with multiple third-party services through APIs across multiple cloud environments. Enterprises are adopting SaaS for mission-critical applications. Every enterprise building comprehensive synthetic monitoring for all of the cloud APIs they depend on is an unreasonable burden. If one company builds the infrastructure and shares the data, this gap can be closed in an economical way.
